It’s about getting it going.

“It’s not always about getting it perfectly right; it’s about getting it going.” This line is like my secret weapon. It's my go-to piece of advice because, well, it's the truth. Let me walk you through a recent reminder I had about this nugget of wisdom.

Last fall, I'm brainstorming with Danielle, my Operations Assistant, about new programs for 2024. It's something I do every year—a sort of annual stock-taking where we assess client needs, community gaps, and future market trends. And let me tell you, this planning session? It's a blast. Danielle and I hit our creative stride, and I'm not ashamed to admit, I'm a bit of a planning geek.

It's not always about getting it perfectly right.

In 2023, we launched an e-course on Sexual Harassment Prevention. Now, don't get me wrong, with my HR background, I can deliver this training in person like a pro. But truth be told, it's not my favorite thing. So, Danielle suggests we turn it into an e-course. Genius, right? (You can check it out here.)

Now, fast forward to this year's planning session. We're all hyped up, mapping out new e-courses left and right, even roping in some fellow HR pros to help out. But then... crickets. I start missing deadlines, procrastinating on voice-overs—basically, I'm stuck in a rut.

Finally, Danielle sits me down (bless her) and we start hashing out an outline for one of the courses. And then it hits me: "These suck," I say. And she responds with the million-dollar question: "What about them sucks?"

They were just plain boring. I was bored putting them together and do you know what? They sucked.

It’s about getting it going.

Sure, e-courses have their place in professional development, and they can be done very professionally. But I don’t like them. I don’t like technology in the classroom at all if I can help it. Virtual classrooms are not my scene. So, no wonder I was struggling to get this project off the ground! It’s not authentic for me to share content virtually.

But then Danielle drops a bombshell: "Is there anything about online learning you do like?"

And do you know what I love? Podcasts. Social media reels. Now, we’re on to something. So, we pivot.

Fast forward a bit, and here we are, sitting in Mad Goat, scrapping the e-course idea and diving headfirst into “Know How”- a catalog of micro courses, that provides bite-size instruction on all of the things you might want to know how to do in business, marketing, non-profit work, HR and leadership.

See, it wasn't about getting it perfectly right—it was about getting it going. Without that initial push with e-courses, we'd never have stumbled upon Know How.

Here's the exciting part: you're invited to be a part of this journey. Stay tuned as we peel back the curtain and give you behind-the-scenes glimpses of Know How's development. Follow us on social media for exclusive teasers, sneak peeks, and maybe even a chance to ask a question to one of our Know How experts.
